Seminar schedule - 2009

The seminar schedule for 2009 has been finalized... At least 'till it changes. This year Prairie Pothole will be offering seminars on wild game cooking, dog handling, and birds of prey. We welcome back Scott Threinen who will lead duck and goose calling seminars and Jim Crace who will help you fine tune your retriever. This year we welcome the Raptor Center from the University of Minnesota Veterinary School and Chad Hughes from Wings North. The seminar schedule is full this year so plan on spending some time behind the barn leaning.

Dock Dogs

DockDogs Northern Stars will be at Prairie Pothole Day for this first time this year. As Seen on TV... ESPN, Outdoor Channel, or ABC. The competition is simple and exciting. Simply put - the dog with the longest leap off the end of the dock - The Big Air Dog - WINS!!! Prairie Pothole has the dock, DockDogs has the official 'Tape-measure', and you have a dog. The question is it a Big Air Dog. Come to Prairie Pothole Day and find out!

Scott Threinen returns to Prairie Pothole Day for the third year to lead seminars on Duck and Goose calling. Besides having won over 30 major calling championships, including the state of Minnesota 3 times, Scott spends over 100 days afield each fall and winter. So come out and let Scott help you improve your duck and goose calling.


Jim Crace

Jim Crace returns to Prairie Pothole Day again this year to lead seminars on retriever training. Jim was a police canine handler for over 7 years. In addition to handling his police dog on the street; he competed in field trials ont eh regional and national level. Since retiring his police K-9, Jim has directed his love of dogs and hunting in the direction of training Labrador Retrievers. He is the owner of High Brass Kennels where for the past 8 years he has been training retrievers for hunting and AKC Hunt Tests and raising high quality Labrador Retriever puppies.

Chad Hughes

Chad Hughes from the Wings North Game Farm and Sporting Clays in Pine City, Minnesota will be on hand to discuss the proper handling of game in the field and in the kitchen. Born and raised in the hunting club industry at Wild Wings of Oneka. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, Crookston, Chad managed the Austerlitz Hunt Club in Upstate New York. After returning to Minnesota Chad and his family opened Wings North. Chad shares his passion for wild game cooking with guests at the Wings North restaurant with duck, pheasant, and quail dishes.

Raptor Center

The Raptor Center from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine will be on hand to teach you about Minnesota birds of prey.
